With the acceleration of urbanization, urban sewage discharge continues to grow, and sewage treatment is facing more stringent discharge standards. As one of the important chemical agents in the process of sewage treatment, the performance of flocculant directly affects the operating effect and economy of the whole treatment system. As a strong cationic polymer, polyamine has been widely used in urban wastewater treatment in recent years, and has become an important auxiliary in water treatment system by virtue of its good electrical neutralization and flocculation properties.
Properties and advantages of polyamine
Polyamine is a linear strong cationic polyelectrolyte, colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with the following performance characteristics:
High cation density: with strong electrical neutralization ability, it can quickly neutralize the negatively charged suspended particles and colloids in sewage.
Good water solubility: it can be mixed and dissolved with water in any proportion, flexible in use.
Wide pH adaptability: it is not sensitive to the pH of water body, and can play a stable role in acidic, neutral and alkaline conditions.
Good chlorine resistance and thermal stability: it can be used in disinfection or high temperature environment to guarantee stable operation.
High-speed shear resistance: it can maintain structural integrity under complex working conditions such as high-intensity mixing or centrifugal dewatering in sewage treatment.
The flocculation mechanism of polyamine in municipal wastewater treatment
In urban wastewater, usually contains a large number of organic pollutants, suspended particles, colloids, surfactants, microbial metabolites and other impurities. These impurities are mostly tiny negatively charged particles, which are difficult to separate by their own sedimentation or natural aggregation.
Polyamine exerts flocculation effect through the following mechanisms:
Electro-neutralization: Its positively charged polymer chain quickly adsorbs the negatively charged particles in the sewage, destroying their stable colloidal structure and prompting the particles to aggregate.
Adsorption and bridging effect: polyamine's polymer chain can adsorb several particles at the same time, and set up a “bridge” between them to form a larger volume of flocs and accelerate the settlement process.
Synergistic reinforcement: Polyamine can be used in combination with inorganic flocculants (e.g. PAC) to form a double flocculating system, which further enhances the treatment efficiency and floc strength.
Through this mechanism, polyamine can effectively reduce the turbidity, COD, BOD of sewage, and improve the mud-water separation effect, and improve the subsequent sludge dewatering efficiency.
Typical application scenarios
Polyamine can play a role in many aspects of urban wastewater treatment plant:
Primary enhanced sedimentation: improve the water quality of sedimentation tank effluent and reduce the load of subsequent biochemical system.
Deep treatment of secondary biochemical effluent: strengthen coagulation and sedimentation, and improve the effluent compliance rate.
Sludge thickening and dewatering: as a dewatering additive, improve the solidity of mud cake and reduce the energy consumption of filter press.
